Employee Biography:

I began my WIC career in April 1978 for Central NE Community Services (now called Central NE Community Action Partnership) in Loup City.  I had been working at the hospital but because I had a young family & my husband was on call a lot,  WIC hours worked better for me.  I came to love working for the WIC program: educating  moms , interacting with moms  & their children. When I started with WIC we hand wrote out the vouchers.

What was your first year with WIC like compared to your thritieth year? How have things changed? What advice would you give your first year self or someone who is just starting out with WIC? Please tell use your favorite WIC-related story.

December 1981 my husband was transferred to Doniphan. At that time Central NE Family Planning out of Grand Island provided WIC to Hamilton, Saline, Seward, York & Fillmore counties.  I worked as a CPA for this agency starting January 1982 5 days a month, but I am unsure how long I worked for them.  In February 1982, I also began working as a CPA 2 days a week  at the Grand Island/Hall Co. Health Dept. which is now Central District Health Dept. After 2 years I became the WIC Director and also the vendor manager.   I worked for this agency until August 2007. Over the years we saw changes in the way WIC did business. Interaction Inc produced our WIC checks and TCO  (Turnaround change order).  We then went to GLINK and printed our own.
